Zbog osmijeha jednog plakao sam cijeli dan,
plakao sam, plakao i još mi se plače.
Suze same krenu, skrito - a srce skače,
tuče: zbog osmijeha jednog, lijepog kao san.

Plakao sam - plakao! - istinu vam velim,
da su bajke žive, po njemu bi se zvale.
Na to lice, sve zvijezde kao da su pale
- pale, al još se žare na usnama vrelim.

Sasvim male - ne znaš što su zvijezde, što usne?! -
Zatečen stojiš, i ne bojiš se podsmijeha.
Pitaš: što je život u svijetu bez osmijeha?

Oko tebe, odjednom, čitav svijet se zgusne,
ali srce se neda, ono se ne srami,
što osmijeh stoji ljepše, dečku nego dami.

Because of one smile I cried all day

Because of one smile I cried all day,
I cried, and cried and would like to cry more.
The tears start on their own, hidden – and the heart jumps,
beats: because of one smile, beautiful like a dream.

I cried – cried! – I’m telling you the truth,
if the fairy tales are live, they would be called after his name.
On that face, like all stars had fallen
- fallen, but they still ember on the hot lips.

Quite small – you don’t know what the stars are, and what the lips are?! -
Caught you’re standing, and you don’t fear the taunt.
You’re asking: what is the life in the world without a smile?

Around you, suddenly, the whole world dense,
but the heart doesn’t give up, it’s not ashamed,
that the smile better suits the boy than the lady.
